International Consensus Statement on Dietary Fat and the Mediterranean Diet and Lifelong Good Health

At an international conference in England in 2000 a group of 50 highly respected medical and nutrition experts from Europe and the United States reviewed dozens of studies, and released a consensus statement about the health-giving benefits of a traditional Mediterranean-style diet. The consensus statement documents the benefits of a Mediterranean style of eating including the reduction in risk of heart disease, breast cancer, colon cancer, diabetes as well as the prevention of obesity. This Web page, from the International Task Force for Prevention of Coronary Heart Disease Web site, contains the text of that consensus statement.
